Coverage of Paralympics
BBC television coverage
of the Paralympics will be more extensive than ever before, action
will be streamed live for six hours a day through the red button and
via broadband.
There will be live terrestrial/red button coverage at the weekends
and the opening and closing ceremonies will also be broadcast live
including the handover to London moment on the final day.
Daily midweek programmes on BBC2 between 7pm and 8pm will be
available on high definition (HD) and on iPlayer.

U22 European Championships
Adana, Turkey
02 - 11 July 2008
Due to a
misunderstanding over player age eligibility, GB were found to have
played two over age players in the first three pool matches and the
results from these games were cancelled and awarded 20 - 0 to their
opponents. As a result, GB finished last in their pool and
play France in the 9th/10th play off game.

Sport, Cardiff from the 4th to 6th July. Teams competing were

Congratulations to
Meteors who defeated Nottingham Jaguars 33 - 13 in the final of the
Junior league, held in Nottingham on Saturday 26th April. In
the Plate final, Manchester Mavericks defeated Knights 23 - 19.

Last night (17th
April) The Lord’s Taverners presented a cheque for £100,000 to the
Great Britain Wheelchair Basketball Association as part of the
Lord’s Taverners Wheelchair Basketball Development Programme.
The Lord’s
Taverners are supporting the whole junior development programme of
wheelchair basketball throughout the United Kingdom and took the
opportunity at the npower Midlands
Disability Sports Awards to present a cheque for the first year of
support.

Wheelchair
Basketball Activity Day and
Wheelchair Basketball Leaders Course
Date:
Friday 6th June 2008
Venue: Featherstone Technology College
Time: 9:30am - 2.00pm
The Activity Day is
organised for pupils from the ages of 6 to 13 and is free.
Pupils will have the opportunity to experience playing wheelchair
basketball, meet league players and learn to play 'Inclusive Zone
Basketball'.
The Leaders Award instructs candidates to introduce the basis skills
of wheelchair basketball, expand these skills into small game
situations and generally use the skills obtained to provide
opportunities for children and novices to play wheelchair
basketball.

Beijing. They are following
5 athletes preparing for Beijing, 4 Olympians and 1 Paralympian –
Clare Strange. Regular updates will feature Clare and the GB
Women's team in their preparation for Beijing, promoting both the GB
team and the sport in the lead up to the Paralympic Games. |

British Wheelchair
Sports Awards 2007
Congratulations to Colin Price, who won the Lifetime Achievement
Award at the 'Wheelpower' British Wheelchair Sports Awards, held at
Royal Berkshire Conference Centre, Reading on
Saturday 24th November. Colin, who won well over 300 caps for
GB, retired from international basketball at the conclusion of the
2007 European Championships, where GB Men won the Silver Medal.
Colin represented GB at 5 Paralympic Games and 6 World Championships
and his medal haul for GB is unrivalled in the modern game.


Congratulations also go to Chare Strange and Simon Munn, who won the
respective Female and Male Individual Achievement Awards.
Clare and Simon were both named in the "All Star Five" teams at the
conclusion of the 2007 European Championships. Simon also
finished third in the top point scorer's table, with 133 points.

Part time foundation degree course in Inclusive Sport Development
Liverpool John
Moore’s University and
Greenbank College
are offering
an exciting new
part time foundation degree course in Inclusive Sport Development.
This new course
is a qualification in its own
right that combines academic and vocational learning. This means a
qualification that bases the knowledge, skills and assessment on the
workplace, therefore developing the student and their company, if
they are employed.
It is ideal for
elite athletes or disabled people who have retired from competitive
sport.
