Setting Up A New Club

When setting up a new club we suggest you follow the processes explained below, these can change depending on the club or group and situation.

  • An up-to-date needs assessment completed with potential participant, partners and other organisations. This could be a straight forward questionnaire evidencing that people would like to play but can't access the activity at present etc. or letters of support from partners evidencing the need or lack of opportunity at present. (Advised sample size of consulted person would be approx 15+)

  • Registration of persons that are wanting to join the club/activities

  • Identification and establishing a committee in order to develop a constitution, set aims/targets and register for a bank account for the club

  • Establish possible venues (costs/times/days), purchase equipment or obtain estimates which can support the costing information when accessing funding applications

  • Develop promotional materials for use in local facilities, libaries etc. If possible develop a club website or alternatively make links to other sites that will support your promotional needs. Establish a relationship with your local press or other subjective resources

  • Research funding opportunities locally, regionally and nationally (i.e. community foundation funding, sports relief small grant funding, local authority funding.) More information can be found on this in our Funding section

  • Establish a register of participants

  • Adopt the relevant policies/procedures - examples of this are listed in this section

  • Ensure that coaches, volunteers and persons associated with the club have relevant checks and appropriate grade qualifications in order to deliver the objectives of their role within the clubs

  • Attend local network meetings in order to promoted/raise awareness of your club and establish better links with partners. (schools, colleges etc)
