Oldham Owls receive support from The Lord’s Taverners
Oldham Owls have received 5 junior wheelchair basketball chairs from the Lord's Taverners as part of their programme with GBWBA.
The chairs will help towards the further development of the club through its forthcoming Taster Days and school/college visits. It is envisage that this will lead to a junior team being created that will participate in the GBWBA's Junior League, which in turn will lead to further opportunities as the children get older to adult national and hopefully international level. The Owls are to initially concentrate on the Oldham/Tameside areas (supported by OCL & Tameside Sports Services). On top of the five chairs they will receive, the Owls will be the base and focal point for the North West of one of the GBWBA's nine regional trailers (with 13 chairs) to further enhance the club's programme over the coming months.
The chairs were presented by Edward Greenhalgh of the Lord's Taverners along with 2 committee members of the Lady Taverners (North West area) Mary Leneghan & Eileen Fitzgibbon at 11:00 o'clock on Friday the 19th February 2010 at a Motive8 Day that is being run by Tameside Sports Services. This is a day where free sports activities are provided for people with a disability and additional needs, their families and friends. Wheelchair Basketball, along with Swimming, Football, Cycling, Dance, Boccia, Kurling, Badminton, Skipping etcetera are among those sports that took place.
