Lothian Phoenix Wheelchair Basketball Coach honoured.
West Lothian Council held it’s Annual Celebrating Sport Awards on Friday 26 February 2010 to celebrate some of the major sporting achievements made by local athletes, coaches and volunteers during 2009.
One of those winners was Stephen Duff, a wheelchair basketball coach at Lothian Phoenix Wheelchair Basketball Club, who won the Coach of the Year Award.
Stephen Duff is the coach to the Lothian Phoenix Wheelchair Basketball Club. In 2006 he formed the club to provide more opportunities for people with a physical disability the opportunity to play competitive basketball. Stephen coached the club to three divisional promotions in three years and the club has now grown so much that a second team has been entered into the Great Britain Wheelchair Basketball Development league. Stephen was the Assistant Coach for the GB Women's Wheelchair Basketball Squad from 2005 to 2008 and was the Assistant Coach the GB Junior Men from 2008 to 2009. Stephen not only coaches to a high level he also provides Wheelchair Basketball sessions and Disability awareness sessions in local schools in West Lothian.
The winners were presented their awards by local dignitaries, including the Provost and were treated to a truly inspirational talk by Tim Reddish OBE.
The Coach of the Year Award for West Lothian Council is awarded each year to a coach who has made an outstanding contribution locally to the development of coaching in their sport.
The Coach of the Year Award is sponsored by sportscotland and the winner receives £500 towards Coach Education and Development.
