Jon Hall and Maddie Thompson are winners at Derbyshire Sports Awards
Jon Hall has been named the University of Derby Disabled Sportsperson of the Year at the Derbyshire Sports Awards.
Jon, from Clowne,was announced as the judges'; choice for the University of Derby Disabled Sportsperson of the Year title during a ceremony at Derby's Pride Park Stadium, attended by more than 250 people.
Jon was presented with his trophy by Hari Punchihewa, Pro Vice Chancellor and Finance Director at the University of Derby, which sponsored the event.
The county's brightest sporting stars, coaches and volunteers gathered with other invited guests to celebrate the successes of the past year and recognise community heroes and coaches who have contributed to sport at grassroots level.
The evening saw 14 coveted trophies awarded, with wheelchair basketball player Maddie Thompson named the Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service Junior Disabled Sportsperson of the Year.
14-year-old Maddie from Hope, who has competed for GB womens and juniors, won the prestigious title after becoming the youngest ever player to be selected to compete at the BT Paralympic World Cup with the GB women.
She also competed for GB Women and GB U22 in an international tournament in the Netherlands in July and for GB women at the European Championships in August where she won bronze. She was presented with her winner's trophy by Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service Area Manager Andy Waldie.
