GB Juniors' Squad
Great Britain Wheelchair Basketball Association are proud of their junior development and we hope that this is displayed in the competitiveness of the Great Britain Junior (Under 22) Squad.
Over the past 10 years the juniors have had a number of successes including, 4th at the World Championships 2005 in Birmingham, and 2001 in Brazil which improved from 5th at the World Championships in Canada 1997.
They have been European Champions twice in both Germany 2002 and Belgium 2004 and they were runners up at the European Championships in Turkey 2006.
Many of the athletes that represent Great Britain Juniors have gone on to represent GB at senior level in both men's and women's teams, such as Helen Freeman, Joe Bestwick, Simon Brown and Fran Ray, to name but a few.
In 2010 this years event are the Astra Tech Challenge in the Netherlands in June and the European Championships which are being held in Italy in July.
The junior team’s eligibility is that players have to be 22 or under or born on or after a certain date (1st Jan 1989 for this year’s events). The squad is subject to regular change and it’s usually the case that they reach their peak at junior level in their last year of eligibility.
