GB Men's Head Coach - Murray Treseder
Great Britain Men’s Head Coach Murray Treseder joined GBWBA in April 2007 from the Australian Rollers Wheelchair Basketball Team.
Before coaching the Rollers, Murray was a coach in the running game for the National League Women’s team the Perth Breakers whom he coached from 1997 – 2001. From 1996-2007 he was also head coach for the Western Australia Institute of Sport Intensive Training Programme which he stepped down from to take up his current position. As well as being the Assistant Coach for the Australian Junior team from 1989 to 1992.
In 2001, Murray took on the role of Head Coach of the Australian Rollers, in his time there he was a successful coach, leading them to a Silver Medal in the Athens Paralympic Games in 2004 and a Bronze medal in the World Championships in 2006. They were also named Oceania/Asia Champions on three consecutive occasions, 2002, 2004 and 2006. He also led Australia to be the first team to beat Canada in 6 years at the Roosevelt Invitational Event 2004.
Murray took the Head Coach position in Great Britain as a challenge, he hoped to reinvigorate the programme and tune in time scales, management and resource. His first achievement with the team was winning the bronze medal at Beijing Paralympic Games 2008 which he stated was a pleasant surprise for him but it was testament to the programme .he hopes that the programme continues to improve and that the extra depth being developed will provide a depth to the squad. A deeper squad will reflect how the Australians played in the Beijing Paralympic Games where they fielded every single player in every game on their way to the gold medal.
